Peace Signs in Whitefish, Montana
President Bush's steady move toward a pre-emptive war against Iraq has motivated a group in Whitefish, Montana, to display signs in their yards which convey the idea of a peaceful alternative.
These signs are hand painted and low tech - usually cardboard, covered amply with white house paint, and lettered in bright acrylic colors.
Most of the signs are either painted by the home owner, or custom painted at the house-owner's request; some are mounted on trees, others are mounted on wooden stakes. Examples can be seen in the pictures to the right
Organizers estimate that about forty signs are up right now, and can be seen on East Second Street, Columbia Avenue, Pine Avenue, and other prominent thoroughfares.
Anyone interested in helping with this effort, or interested in having a sign of their own can contact Ruth Neff at 862-1629.
